TRAFFIC ALERT: Holiday Week Full Of Traffic Problems In Boca, Delray, Boynton

Traffic alert
Traffic alert
Expect big problems this week as school winds down and road construction ramps up.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Memorial Day week. You had plans. FDOT had other plans, and as usual, FDOT’s plans win. From Boca Raton to the western Glades, Palm Beach County roads are a construction obstacle course this week, with lane closures, ramp shutdowns, and at least one full road closure starting Monday. Here’s everything hitting the roads, organized by where you’re actually driving.

BOCA RATON

The express lanes on I-95 are getting some housekeeping this week. Two overnight closures, same nights, both directions.

  • Northbound I-95 express lanes from SW 10th Street to the express lane exit: closed 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, for cleaning and delineator pole replacement.
  • Southbound I-95 express lanes from Clint Moore Road to the express lane exit at Hillsboro Boulevard: same hours, same nights, same reason.

DELRAY BEACH

Delray gets the most abuse this week. Two major FDOT construction projects are grinding away simultaneously, and the Atlantic Avenue corridor is a particular mess.

Atlantic Avenue (SR 806) Reconstruction

This $26 million project widening Atlantic Avenue from US 441 to the Turnpike runs through Summer 2028 — so this is not going away anytime soon. This week:

  • One lane in each direction on Atlantic Avenue between US 441/SR 7 and Lyons Road may close 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday night for drainage work. Flaggers on site.
  • One eastbound and one westbound lane on Atlantic Avenue from Lyons Road to the Turnpike may close 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for grading.
  • Beginning Friday, May 29: westbound traffic on Atlantic between Lyons Road and SR 7/US 441 shifts to the outside lane.
  • The westbound left-turn lane on Atlantic between Mulvehill Road and SR 7/US 441 is permanently closed until widening is complete. Plan accordingly.
  • One lane on Smith Sundy Road between the Storage Zone Gate and Atlantic Avenue may close 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for roadway reconstruction. Flaggers on site.

US 441/SR 7 at Atlantic Avenue

Also part of the Atlantic reconstruction zone — SR 7 is getting squeezed from multiple directions:

  • One northbound lane on SR 7/US 441 from Rio Grande Avenue to just south of Atlantic: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • One northbound lane from just north of Atlantic to Tivoli Isles Boulevard: same hours.
  • One southbound lane from Tivoli Isles to just north of Atlantic, and another from just south of Atlantic to just south of 105th Drive South: Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • One eastbound turn lane on Atlantic from the Wawa back entrance to SR 7 may close 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • The northbound sidewalk between Atlantic and Saturnia Isles Boulevard is closed. Pedestrians detour to the southbound sidewalk.
  • Separately: on SR 7/US 441 north and south of Tivoli Isles Boulevard, one lane closes 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27 for sign installation.

Atlantic Avenue/Homewood Boulevard and Okeechobee/Haverhill Intersection Improvements

This $3.2 million project is adding mast arms and extending turn lanes at two key intersections. This week:

  • One lane in each direction at Atlantic Avenue and Homewood Boulevard/High Point Boulevard: closed intermittently 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for bores, lighting, and signal work. Also closed intermittently 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday night.
  • One eastbound and westbound lane at Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road: closed intermittently 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • One lane in each direction on Haverhill Road north and south of Okeechobee: closed intermittently, same hours.
  • Right-turn lanes at Haverhill and Okeechobee: closed intermittently 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

BOYNTON BEACH

Boynton is in the middle of a $64 million rework of the I-95/Boynton Beach Boulevard interchange — a project that runs through early 2029 and has been disrupting traffic since August 2025. That’s not going to change this week.

I-95 at Boynton Beach Boulevard (Interchange Project)

  • Eastbound Boynton Beach Boulevard from just west of NW 8th Street to east of W. Industrial Avenue remains reduced to two through lanes (from three) with temporary barrier wall through late 2026. The northbound outside turn lane at NW 8th Street is also closed.
  • NW 7th Street at Boynton Beach Boulevard is closed through early summer 2026 for drainage installation. Detour via NW 1st Avenue and NW 8th Street.
  • Boynton Beach Boulevard from Old Boynton Road to NW 3rd Avenue: one lane may close in each direction, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., any night this week, for bridge construction. Single-lane closures are permitted on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • The westbound turn lane to the I-95 southbound entrance ramp may close 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Detour: W. Industrial Ave. to U-turn to eastbound Boynton Beach Blvd to access southbound I-95.
  • I-95 mainline: up to three lanes may close in each direction 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday night. A fourth lane may close as needed. Closures may begin as early as 8 p.m.

I-95 Ramp Closures — Any one of the following ramps may close 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday (only one at a time is permitted to close):

  • NB exit ramp to Boynton Beach Blvd: detour via NB I-95 exit to Woolbright Road, east to US 1, north to Boynton Beach Blvd.
  • SB exit ramp to Boynton Beach Blvd: detour via SB I-95 exit to Gateway Blvd, east to US 1, south to Boynton Beach Blvd.
  • NB entrance ramp from Boynton Beach Blvd: detour via Boynton Beach Blvd east to US 1 or west to Congress Ave, north to Gateway Blvd to access I-95.
  • SB entrance ramp from Boynton Beach Blvd: detour via Boynton Beach Blvd east to US 1 or west to Congress Ave, south to Woolbright Road to access I-95.

Boynton Beach Boulevard Resurfacing (Orchid Grove Trail to Palm Isles Drive)

This separate $2.7 million resurfacing project is east of the interchange area. This week:

  • One outside lane in each direction: closed intermittently 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday night for electrical work.
  • Two lanes closed for pavement marking and traffic loop installation: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday night, and again 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1. Work occurs one direction at a time.

LAKE WORTH BEACH

SR A1A/South Ocean Boulevard (Lake Avenue to Ibis Way)

This $5.9 million resurfacing and widening project is in its final stretch, expected to wrap Summer 2026. Through then:

  • One lane of A1A/South Ocean Boulevard may be closed with flagging daily 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and nightly 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday night through Friday through June 2026, for grading, sod installation, and final striping.
  • One lane of Lake Avenue just west of A1A may also close in each direction on the same schedule.
  • Pedestrian detours are in place throughout the work zone.

TOWN OF PALM BEACH

SR A1A/South County Road (Emerald Beach Way to Royal Palm Way)

A separate $8.2 million A1A project running through late 2026. This week:

  • One lane of A1A/South County Road closed with flagging 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for concrete work, sidewalk replacement, and site restoration.
  • Additional nighttime work possible Sunday through Thursday, roughly midnight to 8 a.m., with lane closures for equipment staging.
  • Drilled shaft installation for new traffic signal mast arms is ongoing at Peruvian Avenue (southwest corner) and Worth Avenue (southwest corner).
  • Construction and sidewalk work also ongoing at: the northwest and southwest corners of Royal Palm Way, the southeast corner of Fire Station #1, the northeast corner of Peruvian Avenue, the northwest corner of Golfview Road, and the southeast corner of Hammon Avenue.
  • Portions of the sidewalk will be closed with pedestrian detour routes in place.

WEST PALM BEACH

US 1/SR 5 from Belvedere Road to Okeechobee Boulevard

This $3.9 million resurfacing project also adds a new mid-block signalized crosswalk and upgrades pedestrian infrastructure along a busy stretch of US 1. This week:

  • Northbound and southbound US 1/SR 5 may have one lane closed intermittently from Belvedere Road to Okeechobee Boulevard, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, for concrete work and drilled shaft operations.

I-95 Between Lantana Road and Congress Avenue

  • Northbound and southbound I-95 between Lantana Road and Congress Avenue will have two lanes closed 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 31 through Thursday, June 4, for roadway safety equipment replacement.

Florida’s Turnpike / Okeechobee Boulevard

  • Westbound SR 80/Southern Boulevard: one inside lane closed continuously from the northbound Turnpike entrance to west of Pike Road through May 2026, for Turnpike bridge widening.
  • Eastbound and westbound SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard between Vista Parkway and West Drive: single lane closures 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday night as part of the Turnpike widening project. Eastbound and westbound will not close simultaneously.

RIVIERA BEACH / LAKE PARK / NORTH PALM BEACH

US 1/SR 5 from 59th Street to Northlake Boulevard (Riviera Beach)

This $13.4 million corridor project adds bike lanes, new medians, and upgrades the bridge over the Port of Palm Beach. This week:

  • Northbound and southbound US 1/SR 5 from 59th Street to Northlake Boulevard: one outside lane closed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • The northbound sidewalk on US 1 from Access Road to W. 11th Street remains closed through June 2026. Right-turn access to E. 11th Street is also closed. For cruise terminal access, continue straight and use W. 13th Street.
  • One lane on northbound SR 5/US 1 at E. 34th Street: closes 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27 for sign installation.

US 1/SR 5 Earman River Bridge Replacement (North Palm Beach)

This $13.7 million bridge replacement in the Village of North Palm Beach runs through Summer 2027. The current traffic configuration is unusual:

  • Southbound US 1 traffic has been shifted to the northbound bridge while the new southbound span is under construction. Two lanes open in each direction on the northbound portion. This shift stays in place through Spring 2027.
  • The southbound outside lane from Anchorage Drive to Northlake Boulevard will close intermittently Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Earman River channel is closed through Spring 2027. Mariners should use the Intracoastal Waterway north to the Lighthouse Bridge.

PALM BEACH GARDENS

Palm Beach Gardens is home to the county’s biggest active project — the $148 million Beeline Highway rebuild — plus two other I-95 ramp projects.

SR 710/Beeline Highway Reconstruction (Northlake Blvd to Blue Heron Blvd)

This $148.2 million project widens Beeline from four to six lanes and replaces the Turnpike bridge over it. It runs through late 2029, and the disruptions are substantial and sustained:

  • Beeline Highway from Military Trail to Blue Heron Boulevard is reduced to one inside lane in each direction through September 2026 — around the clock, not just overnight.
  • Additional daytime closures (one lane each direction, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday) also affect Beeline at: Blue Heron to Northlake, the Northlake intersection, the Jog Road intersection, and the Haverhill Road intersection.
  • One southeast-bound lane on Beeline closed 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • The Beeline northwest ramp to eastbound Northlake Boulevard is temporarily closed, anticipated to reopen Summer 2026. Turn right at the signal to access eastbound Northlake instead.
  • The southeast Beeline left-turn lane to eastbound Blue Heron Boulevard is closed around the clock through September 2026. Detour: southeast on Beeline, north on Military Trail, east on Blue Heron.
  • Northlake Boulevard east and west of Beeline: one lane in each direction closed as needed, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. U-turns at the Beeline intersection are not available — that configuration stays through Winter 2026.
  • Westbound SR 708/Blue Heron Boulevard has been shifted to the outside lane from Beeline to just south of N. Haverhill Road through September 2026. Eastbound Blue Heron from Beeline to Military Trail may have one outside lane closed 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
  • Florida’s Turnpike near the Beeline overpass: one lane in each direction closes 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday night through May 2026. Southbound Turnpike lanes near the overpass have been temporarily shifted and remain so through Fall 2026.

I-95 Ramps Safety Improvement (Okeechobee and Indiantown)

This $1.2 million project installs high-friction surface treatment on several I-95 ramps. Upcoming ramp closures:

  • I-95 northbound off-ramp to westbound Indiantown Road: closed 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2. Detour: exit at Indiantown Road east, U-turn at 68th Terrace N./Island Way, west on Indiantown.
  • I-95 southbound off-ramp to eastbound Indiantown Road: closed 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, June 1. Detour: exit at Indiantown Road west, U-turn at the Turnpike entrance, east on Indiantown.

PGA Boulevard at Military Trail / I-95

  • The I-95 northbound off-ramp to eastbound PGA Boulevard and eastbound PGA Boulevard from west of Military Trail to west of RCA Boulevard: one outside lane closed intermittently, weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 2026, for force main installation and directional bore work.
  • Southbound I-95 from the Military Trail bridge to PGA Boulevard: up to four lanes closed for resurfacing, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1. The southbound I-95 off-ramp to PGA Boulevard also closes the night of May 31. Detour: exit at southbound Military Trail to access PGA Blvd.

WELLINGTON / ROYAL PALM BEACH

SR 7/US 441 (Multiple Stretches)

Western Palm Beach County SR 7 is getting squeezed at multiple points this week:

  • SR 7/US 441 from Okeechobee Boulevard to 60th Street N (Royal Palm Beach): one lane closed 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28 for safety equipment installation.
  • SR 7/US 441 from Lake Worth Road to Southern Boulevard (Wellington): one lane closed 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday, May 24, Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27 for safety equipment installation.

SR 7/US 441 at Lake Worth Road

This $3.4 million project adds a northbound right-turn lane at Lake Worth Road. This week:

  • Northbound SR 7: outside right lane and adjacent lane closed intermittently 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for earthwork.
  • Shopping plaza access along northbound SR 7 south of Lake Worth Road: closed continuously June 1 through June 5 for drainage operations. Alternate access available on Lake Worth Road.

SR 80/Southern Boulevard Ramps and SR 7 Ramp Improvements

This $8.3 million project widens the C-51 Canal bridge and adds turn lanes at the SR 7/Southern Boulevard interchange, running through Summer 2027:

  • One outside lane along northbound and southbound SR 7/US 441: closed intermittently Tuesday through Friday for signalization and electrical work.
  • One lane on SR 7: closed intermittently 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for roadway work.
  • The northbound right-turn lane at the SR 7 on-ramp to eastbound Southern Boulevard: closed continuously for bridge widening.
  • The northeast and southeast sidewalks at SR 7 and Southern Boulevard: closed continuously through Summer 2026.

WESTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY

US 27/SR 25 — EAA Reservoir Canal Bridges (27 Miles North of I-75)

This $20.9 million project is building new bridges over a canal being dug to connect to the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir. Remote, but if you travel US 27, take note:

  • Intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures within the project limits Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Traffic is shifted east for the rest of 2026 to protect bridge and canal construction on the west side.
  • Speed limit reduced from 65 to 55 mph throughout the project limits.

SR 700/Conners Highway — FULL ROAD CLOSURE Starting June 1

This is the week’s most significant closure. A $1.3 million embankment repair project along Conners Highway triggers a full road closure beginning Monday, June 1:

  • SR 700/Conners Highway from Hatton Highway to SR 80/US 98 will be fully closed throughout construction.
  • Northbound detour: SR 80/US 98, right onto Hatton Highway, left onto Conners Highway.
  • Southbound detour: right onto Hatton Highway, left onto SR 80/US 98.

Thirteen construction projects. Two multi-year interchange rebuilds. A full road closure. Express lane maintenance in Boca. All of it happening during one of the busier holiday travel weeks of the year. The good news, if you can call it that: most major lane closures are overnight. The bad news: the daytime restrictions on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach and Beeline Highway in Palm Beach Gardens are real, sustained, and not going anywhere. Give yourself extra time. Or stay home. FDOT suggests the former.
