The woman lives alone, has no local family to lean on, and depends on Social Security and a small annuity to cover her expenses — a financial reality that makes the scale of the damage all the more devastating.
A friend of the woman — whose name is not being shared — took to GoFundMe to ask for help. GoFundMe reached out to BocaNewsNow.com to spread the message. The friend says the destruction is extensive. The entire interior of her unit must be cleared of fire and water debris before any reconstruction can begin, and contractors will need to replace electrical wiring, plumbing, structural studs and all of the drywall. Both the kitchen and the bathrooms require complete renovation. Adding to the burden, the fire also destroyed the home’s hurricane-impact windows.
The friend describes the woman as a kind and generous neighbor who has always been there for others and now finds herself overwhelmed. Like many elderly residents on fixed incomes, she could only afford limited insurance coverage — nowhere near enough for a project of this scale.
Every dollar raised, the friend says, would go directly toward helping her rebuild her home and her life.
