BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The two men accused battering a child and stealing his phone in the West Boca Raton community of Lotus will now have to live as accused felons until at least the end of July. Both Schuman and Brooks agreed to postpone an early June “case disposition” until July 31st.

Ari Brooks
Ari Brooks is also facing a felony charge for his alleged role in the Lotus e-bike incident.

As BocaNewsNow.com reported exclusively in stories the news outlet broke, Schuman was seemingly caught on camera on April 3, throwing a water bottle at a child performing wheelies on an e-bike in Lotus. Schuman then allegedly took the boy’s phone. Ari Brooks, another Lotus resident, is seen on video restraining the child as a crowd of adults arrives to seemingly administer middle-age-million-dollar-homeowner Lotus street justice against a child. At least one woman is heard on the video encouraging the men. She has not been charged.

Police initially issued a “notice to appear” against Mitchell Schuman but — with prosecutors — upped the charges after viewing video on BocaNewsNow.com. Schuman is now charged with one felony count of robbery by sudden snatching and misdemeanor charges of battery, theft, and criminal mischief. Brooks is charged with one felony count of robbery by sudden snatching and a misdemeanor charge of battery.
