DoorDash And Driver Both Sued…

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton woman has filed a lawsuit against DoorDash and one of its delivery drivers, alleging she was struck by the driver while crossing a parking lot walkway near Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach, and that the food delivery giant never should have hired the driver in the first place.
According to a complaint just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Diane Staples was walking across a designated path in a parking lot near the Southern Boulevard exit on Feb. 17, 2026, when Laura M. Reyes, operating a vehicle while working as a DoorDash delivery driver, struck her. Staples suffered what the lawsuit describes as severe and permanent injuries, including physical impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish, and a lasting loss of quality of life.
The four-count complaint goes well beyond blaming the driver. It accuses DoorDash of vicarious liability, negligent hiring, and negligent supervision, arguing the company knew — or should have known — that Reyes had an unsafe history of traffic violations and crashes before putting her behind the wheel. The suit contends DoorDash exercised significant control over its drivers, setting fares, controlling routes, and restricting drivers from building their own customer base — factors the plaintiff argues make the company directly liable for what happened in that parking lot.
Staples is represented by attorney Abiel Ors of Morgan & Morgan in Miami. The lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $50,000 — the statutory minimum for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. Door Dash had not filed a response processed by the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts Thursday afternoon.
