BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton is officially in World Cup mode. The city has been selected as the Team Base Camp host for Curaçao’s Men’s National Team — known as the Blue Wave — during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, which runs from June 11 through the championship match on July 19. BocaNewsNow.com has learned from the City of Boca Raton that Curaçao players, coaches, staff, and supporters will be based in Boca Raton, with Florida Atlantic University’s sports facilities serving as the team’s training home.
Boca Raton is one of 48 Team Base Camp Training Sites chosen across the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 104 matches. FAU’s facilities were specifically selected by Curaçao to serve as its home away from home during the tournament. Mayor Andy Thomson called it a moment of global visibility for the city.
“Being selected as a FIFA World Cup 2026™ host city showcases Boca Raton and the exceptional facilities at Florida Atlantic University on a global stage,” Thomson said. “This is a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the excitement of the tournament and share our community’s hospitality with Team Curaçao.”
The tournament carries particular significance for Curaçao, a Caribbean island nation of roughly 150,000 residents. The country is making history as the smallest nation ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup — a milestone that has generated enormous pride both on the island and among its supporters worldwide.
As part of the city’s Summer in the City series, Boca Raton is hosting a free watch party at Mizner Park Amphitheater on Saturday, July 11. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and the quarterfinal match — taking place in Miami — kicks off at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. More information is available at myboca.us.
