BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County woman is suing medical device giant Medtronic Inc., claiming a defective insulin pump failed without warning and caused her to fall into a coma. Christine Hunter filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, targeting the Minneapolis-based company’s MiniMed 780G diabetic insulin pump, which she says stopped delivering insulin during normal use on June 12, 2022.
According to the complaint obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Hunter was using the device in its “intended and customary” manner when it catastrophically failed, cutting off her insulin supply. The lawsuit alleges Medtronic knew or should have known the pump contained defects that could cause it to fail during regular operation, and that the company failed to adequately warn consumers of the danger.
The suit brings two counts against Medtronic — negligence and strict liability.
Hunter is seeking compensatory and consequential damages exceeding $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented by Colin Richards of Colin Richards Law P.A. in West Palm Beach. Medtronic has not yet filed a response in the case.
