UPDATE: Victim Seriously Injured In Crash That Led To Shots Fired. Victim, However, Not Shot.

UPDATE: Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 12:06 p.m. — Police now confirm to BocaNewsNow.com that this was in fact a shooting, but the victim was NOT actually shot. Here’s what apparently happened: there was a car crash in Polo Trace which led to shots being fired. The shots, however, apparently did NOT hit the victim who sustained a serious injury in the crash. Police initially believed the victim was shot — due to the amount of blood — but later learned he was not hit. The shooter “lawyered up” and has not been charged at this time. The victim was rushed to Delray Medical Center and continues to recover.
GoFundMe Saturday morning, in a press release, said the victim had been shot in the head. While that was initially believed by police, it turned out to be inaccurate. GoFundMe removed the campaign. We are keeping our original reporting below so readers can see how the story progressed on Saturday.
DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The man apparently shot earlier this week in the West Delray Beach community of Polo Trace was identified this morning by GoFundMe as an area physician. Shortly after GoFundMe sent a press release about the campaign, it was removed. We are temporarily removing the name of the doctor as we await clarification.
According to a GoFundMe campaign shared with BocaNewsNow.com by the GoFundMe organization, the victim was, “shot in the head by a neighbor” but survived. As we reported on Wednesday, the victim was shot in the head but was still responsive when paramedics rushed him to Delray Medical Center. Sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that they were told the bullet entered the lower part of his head and exited through the top.
No arrests have been made as of early Saturday morning. From the GoFundMe hosted by another neighbor in Polo Trace:

This is the worst reporting of an event that I ever heard from public media!!
Actually, no it isn’t. You watched a story develop in real-time. Police said one thing, then changed it. An HOA said one thing which was blatantly incorrect. A major organization — GoFundMe — issued a press release then pulled it back. All of this was reported as it happened. That’s called journalism.
