HIGHLAND BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Highland Beach man already on probation was arrested Saturday after Highland Beach Police say he slammed his Hummer into a USPS mail truck in January, fled the scene, and then lied to officers about being involved when they came looking for him.

According to Highland Beach Police in a report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, the crash happened January 22 at 4011 S. Ocean Blvd., when 53-year-old Branden Scott Millstone’s black 2008 Hummer struck a postal truck driven by mail carrier Jorge Palacio, who was pulling over to deliver mail. The impact was so violent it shoved Palacio’s truck into a third, parked vehicle. Police say the crash automatically triggered a 911 call from Millstone’s iPhone, and Millstone got out of his Hummer and approached Palacio, shouting, “don’t call the f—ing police, I’ll pay for everything.” Palacio told investigators he could smell alcohol on Millstone’s breath. Palacio replied that the vehicle wasn’t his and that he had to report the crash — at which point, police say, Millstone got back in his damaged Hummer and drove home, leaving a trail of tire marks behind since one of his four tires was no longer functional.

Highland Beach Fire Rescue tried to check on Millstone at his nearby home and reported he was slurring his words and stumbling, but he refused treatment and went inside before police arrived. When officers called his cellphone — the same one that had triggered the 911 call — Millstone answered and initially denied being involved in any accident at all, before contradicting himself moments later by saying everyone involved was fine. He then hung up.

Palacio was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he was treated for a cervical sprain, a left wrist sprain and a knee contusion. Investigators say Millstone later admitted by phone that he’d been in a hit-and-run and claimed he’d tried to turn himself in at the Boca Raton Police Department, though he later backed out of giving a statement on his attorney’s advice. Palacio positively identified Millstone in a photo lineup on January 30.

Millstone was arrested June 27 and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries. He remains held Monday morning in the Palm Beach County Jail. Court records indicate that Millstone was on probation for a previous DUI incident.
