The Boca Raton, once known as “The Boca Resort,” is facing a lawsuit over a tablecloth.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County couple is suing The Boca Raton (formerly known as The Boca Resort), claiming a bunched-up tablecloth at a buffet table sent the wife crashing to the floor and left her needing surgery.

Dorene Sedrish and her husband, Michael Sedrish, just filed the suit against The Boca Raton, LLC and Boca Owner, LLC, both doing business as The Boca Raton. The couple lives together in Palm Beach County and says Dorene was a guest at the world-famous resort when the fall happened.

According to the complaint, Dorene Sedrish was attending an event on April 8 in the resort’s Cathedral Ballroom, located at 501 East Camino Real. As she approached the buffet table to prepare a plate, she allegedly got her left foot got tangled in the tablecloth. The tablecloth was allegedly hanging down and had bunched up on the floor at the base of the table. The suit claims the tablecloth wasn’t properly pinned or fastened, and that the excess material blended in with the color of the carpet, making it hard to spot. Sedrish fell and suffered injuries serious enough to require surgery, according to the filing.

The lawsuit accuses both corporate entities of negligence, arguing they had a duty to keep the ballroom safe for guests and failed to do so. Specifically, the complaint claims the defendants created the hazard, didn’t properly inspect or maintain the buffet area, used poor judgment in selecting or securing the tablecloths, and never warned Sedrish about the dangerous condition even though staff allegedly had more knowledge of it than she did. Both The Boca Raton, LLC and Boca Owner, LLC are named because the suit says each exercised control over the ballroom.

Dorene Sedrish is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, and her husband has filed a separate loss of consortium claim, arguing the injuries have cost him her services, comfort and companionship. Both husband and wife are demanding a jury trial. The couple is represented by attorney Donald J. Ward III of the West Palm Beach firm Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley. T
