DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An Uber driver taking was himself given a ride to jail after Delray Beach police say they found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside his car. Alexander Robert Kusak, 27, of Pittsford, New York, was arrested around 2:48 a.m. Saturday after an officer was sent to check out a suspicious vehicle parked in a private lot at 202 NE 11th Street in Delray Beach.

In a police report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, officers say they found Kusak sitting in a gray Honda Accord, visibly shaking and sweating despite the air conditioning running. He told the officer he drives for Uber and was parked there on a break between fares. While talking with Kusak, the officer spotted a brown glass pipe with a charred end sitting in plain view on the floor mat, along with a lighter. Recognizing the pipe as drug paraphernalia, officers pulled Kusak from the vehicle and detained him.

A search of the Accord turned up broken white rock-like substances in the center console, which officers identified as crack cocaine. Two more glass pipes with white residue, one green and one purple, were found in the driver’s side door. After being read his Miranda rights, Kusak told police he got the crack cocaine from a Checkers restaurant on West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. The suspected narcotics were later tested with a field kit at the Delray Beach Police Department and came back positive for cocaine.

Kusak was booked on one count of possession of cocaine and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest comes just days after our report on serious Uber safety issues in South Florida.
