If Your HOA Says “No” To Fireworks, Know You Can Be Fined, Arrested. Boca Raton. Delray Beach. Boynton Beach. Wellington. Lake Worth.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If this is your first July 4th in Florida, know this: your homeowner’s association likely bans fireworks. And if it does, know this: you can be fined, cited, trespassed, or even arrested if you break the rules.
As we report each year, residents are often surprised to find out they are subject to fines, sanctions, even arrest if they set off fireworks in the community. The State of Florida permits fireworks on several holidays each year, and July 4th is one of them. But HOA’s are more powerful than the State of Florida. Your HOA is allowed to set its own rules — and enforce consequences. Simply put: you can be fined, you can be sanctioned (banned from community amenities, for instance), or cited with a punishment to be determined by a Board of Directors. We’ve also heard over the years of HOA’s actually “trespassing” homeowners setting off fireworks on community property. That involves the police issuing a trespass warning — something you don’t want. Those warnings can lead to arrests if the bad behavior continues.
If you do decide to set off fireworks, please be careful. Rules aside, we seem to report stories each year about people in Palm Beach County critically injured while using fireworks — we hope this July 4th is different.
Remember that whenever you purchase fireworks you are contributing to the economy of Communist China. We need to find another form of celebration.
