DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman escaped injury Thursday evening when she abandoned her car on the Brightline tracks in Delray Beach, moments before an oncoming freight train hit the car.
BocaNewsNow.com has learned the investigation into the incident near George Bush Boulevard and NE 3rd Avenue continues. It’s unclear why the woman’s car was on the tracks. There were no reports of signal crossing issues in the area.
The incident, around 7:30 Thursday evening, led to a significant emergency response of police, paramedics, and rescuers. On the scene, they found the damaged car and the uninjured woman nearby.
South Florida motorists have a unique relationship with trains and railroad tracks — often disregarding warning signs, gates, flashing lights, and audible signals in an effort to beat the train. The train almost always wins — proven by the multiple train-related deaths already this year in Palm Beach County.
