BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is facing multiple charges after police say he refused to leave the Hyatt Place hotel, got physical with an officer, and then told the officer he wasn’t a “real” police officer.
According to a “real” police report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, officers were called to the Hyatt Place at 100 East Palmetto Park Road on July 27 after hotel staff reported a man refusing to leave the property. When an officer arrived, he recognized the man as 56-year-old Juan Efrain Serrano, someone he apparently had dealt with before. A hotel representative confirmed she wanted Serrano trespassed from the property. The officer says he warned Serrano to leave, but Serrano instead walked over to benches still on hotel grounds and refused to go.
As the officer told Serrano he was being issued a trespass warning, Serrano became agitated and told the officer he “was not a real Police Officer,” even though the officer was in full uniform with a badge. Serrano then dropped the bags he was carrying and aggressively walked toward the officer, closing the distance between them, according to the arrest report. The officer says he stepped back, gave lawful commands, and tried to take hold of Serrano’s arm, but Serrano pulled away, tensed up, and threw his hat to the ground while raising his arms as if preparing to fight.
The officer drew his taser and ordered Serrano to his knees. Serrano initially tried to walk away before eventually complying, and a second officer arrived to help place him in handcuffs. Serrano was arrested and charged with trespass after warning, assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and is scheduled to appear in real court to face the real charges in September.
