PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man is dead after being shot by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Deputy who he allegedly tried to attack with a knife. PBSO issued this statement Thursday morning to BocaNewsNow.com:
>> On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to a welfare check in the 2900 block of Hope Valley Street in unincorporated West Palm Beach.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered the suspect engaged in a physical struggle with his mother and father while armed with a kitchen knife. Deputies repeatedly issued verbal commands for the suspect to drop the knife; however, he refused to comply and continued fighting with his father while remaining armed.
In an effort to de-escalate the situation, a deputy deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. Despite repeated commands to drop the knife the suspect continued the violent altercation while still holding the knife, a deputy discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect in the torso.
Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
