BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Palm Beach County is alerting Sunday afternoon that traffic is going to be a nightmare by Olympic Heights High School on Monday — the first day of school. The problems will continue for days, weeks, or possibly months.
The issue: GL Homes and others continue to build mega communities on Lyons Road, requiring a massive modernization of the water system. Inexplicably, Palm Beach County has decided to do this — in front of Olympic Heights High School — right as the school year begins. Here is the official announcement sent to BocaNewsNow.com Sunday afternoon:
>>The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) will be using licensed contractors to perform critical infrastructure upgrades, resulting in a temporary restriction in the traffic pattern near Olympic Heights High School on Lyons Rd. between Glades Rd. and La Fontana Blvd. in Boca Raton.
This work will be ongoing through the weekend and continue until further notice. Motorists, students and families are advised to exercise caution, and plan for additional travel time as they approach the entrance to the school, which reopens for the school year on August 10.

- All turning movements will be open at the north entrance to the Olympic Heights High School (bus loop);
- All turning movements will be open at the main entrance to the Olympic Heights High School (staff parking);
- Orange Barrels and Movement-of-Traffic (MOT) devices and signage will be placed to prevent use of the intersection at the Olympic Heights High School south entrance (student parking);
- The south entrance/student parking will only be accessible for entry by southbound traffic entering by a right turn, and for exit to travel southbound by right turn;
- Northbound Lyons Rd. traffic will not be permitted to make a left turn across Lyons Rd. into the south entrance/student parking lot.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) will have deputies in place Monday, August 10 beginning at 6:00 a.m. to assist with directing school traffic. Digital indicators, safety devices, and visible work zone perimeters are also in place to guide motorists (see illustration below)
