“BOYCOTT BOCANEWSNOW.COM!”
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — We reported yesterday that a South Florida private school is being targeted by parents who believe its new “no skirt” policy for girls is extreme. As we wrote: the policy requires girls to wear uniform shorts or pants, but not skirts. As we later learned: more than one South Florida school is implementing a skirt policy this year — as administrators try to solve a problem that some say South Florida private school parents let get out of control.
We pulled the article earlier this morning after some suggested it was too snarky — even for us. We love snark. But we certainly didn’t mean to be more offensive and aggressive than we normally are.
Even after pulling our original story, however, we’ve been receiving calls from supporters and advertisers of BocaNewsNow.com, all laughing. Why are they laughing? Because they’re apparently being targeted by some adults who say they will boycott their business because of our reporting. If ever there is a question as to the power and reach of BocaNewsNow.com, consider that statement: “we will boycott you because you support BocaNewsNow.com.” What a great compliment. As one business pointed out: “it certainly speaks to your publication’s reach.” Ironically, at least three school have been named by callers threatening a boycott following our report that didn’t name any school.
As for skirt gate: we acknowledge our article may have been a bit much. We’re a bit much so it seems on-brand. If parents believe that they’re being wronged, we certainly support their right to protest. And we definitely support appropriate student protests when conducted maturely. However, we again note that private schools are private. They can pretty much set any rule that they want. Parents agree to policies and procedures when they sign contracts.
That said, we also routinely work with administrators from most South Florida private schools as a part of our regular reporting. We find all of them to be reasonable. We also know that skirts, and some girls abusing skirts, are a problem at many South Florida schools. Banning them solves the problem. While we’re not sure that an internet petition is the best way to rationally communicate a concern on the issue, we certainly appreciate that someone felt that they needed to be heard. And now they have been. Whether that leads to a serious review at affected schools remains to be seen.

There is a private school across from where I live. I see the girls walking to school most of their skirts are way too short. The girls at my high school would have been sent home. The parents today really need to open their eyes and act like parents and not like their child’s friend. My mother would never allow my sister to go out dressed like that. Please keep up the good reporting. We need a forum like the yours.
As for skirt gate, what is the issue? Are some girls wearing skirts too short without other clothing under? I can’t imagine other than a few miss guided floozie-wan-a-bes abusing the opportunity to be comfortable.
In past years, schools all had dress codes. Skirts had to provide a certain amount or coverage or get sent home. Even tops and shorts also had restrictions that certain coverage was required.
Way back when, As a healthy young man, some of the floozies made concentrating on studies extremely difficult.

When I went to school in upstate NY in the 50’s-60’s we weren’t allowed to wear anything other than skirts or dresses.. my things have changed.
We wore pants in the winter under our skirts/ dresses and put them in our locker.
Now, I see young girls almost naked with private
areas almost visible. Where are the parents?
These young girls look like sluts and get away
with it. THE PARENTS ARE TO BLAME.
Be a Parent! Stop petitioning schools over dress codes. The school is trying to make young girls into young ladies and not allowing hookers on their campus. JMO
Many girls at the school are not happy with the change because guess what? They like to dress like GIRLS – and not under some androgynous dress code where boys and girls basically have the same uniform. The clothing in question – culottes – are not skirts, there is a piece of modesty fabric.
Let girls dress like girls. If shorter than the dress code allows I agree with previous comments – call the parents and start progressive discipline e.g. verbal warning first offense, written warning second, get sent home third time. No explanation was given for the change, many are guessing teachers complained about having to enforce the skirt length rule.
