LAKE WORTH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — (UPDATE: 12:02 p.m.) — An unidentified driver was killed early Saturday when their car crossed a median on Jog Road, slammed into an oncoming minivan, and burst into flames, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened just before 3:42 a.m. near the intersection of Jog Road and Vilma Lane, north of Lantana Road. Deputies say a 2026 Honda Civic was heading north on Jog Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, struck the center median, and crossed into oncoming traffic. The Civic began spinning counterclockwise and the rear passenger side of the car struck the front of a southbound 2015 Toyota Sienna. The Civic then veered off the road and slammed into a chain-link fence, where it caught fire and was fully engulfed.
The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not been able to identify that driver, and next of kin has not been notified. The driver of the Sienna, identified as 44-year-old Flor Del Rosario Elizabeth De Leon Mendez of Palm Springs, and her passenger, 17-year-old Joanna De Leon, were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash, deputies say.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is continuing to investigate. No charges have been filed as of this report.
