BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman believed to be in her 70s is being treated for smoke inhalation Sunday afternoon after a small smoke situation in her apartment led to a huge response from Boca Raton Fire Rescue.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that a neighbor in the apartment building at 380 West Palmetto Park Road smelled — and then saw — lots of smoke coming from a nearby unit. He knew that an elderly woman lived there and immediately called 911.

At least 13 fire rescue units were sent to the scene where the first first responders determined that there was no fire, but lots of smoke. All from soup that overflowed from a pot and onto the stove.

The woman — and her two dogs — were rescued from the apartment which is being ventilated Sunday afternoon. It’s unclear if the unit sustained additional damage.
