BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Two Boca Raton men admitted to running a nationwide mail fraud scheme that tricked thousands of companies into paying for products they never ordered. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Alec Dierna, 32, and John Engler, 40, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca in Rochester, New York. The charge carries up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The scheme ran from August 2020 to July 2022. Dierna, Engler and five co-defendants blanketed the country with mailers designed to look like invoices, sent from Florida, California and Rochester. The mailers convinced victim companies they already owed money for products supposedly ordered from firms with names like Office Outlet, America’s Best, United Chemicals, Hi-Tech Industrial, North Atlantic Supply, Top Tier Chemicals, Nationwide Chemicals, Direct Chemical, Easton Chemical, Safety Supply and Union Gloves. None of those products had actually been ordered. Several thousand companies paid up anyway — a total of $8,010,543.50 that went straight to the co-conspirators’ businesses.
Five other co-defendants have already been convicted in the case. Dylan Paul Costanza, Nicholas Scarantino, Kyle Paul Edward Gibson, Tommy Lee Coburn and Bryan Lantry all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and are awaiting sentencing. The company behind much of the operation, Five Star Warehouse, LLC, entered a corporate guilty plea and is also waiting to be sentenced.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Melissa M. Marangola and Kyle P. Rossi are prosecuting the case. It grew out of a joint investigation by the FBI, under Special Agent-in-Charge Allen D. Davis, II; IRS Criminal Investigation’s New York Field Division, under Special Agent-in-Charge Harry T. Chavis, Jr.; and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division, under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Justin Page. Dierna and Engler are scheduled to be sentenced February 10, 2027, at 10 a.m. before Judge Vacca.
