BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Loxahatchee man was arrested on the southbound Florida Turnpike near Boynton Beach after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper clocked him at 117 miles per hour. Jefferey Loyd Boatwright Jr., 29, was taken into custody and charged with dangerous excessive speed, a misdemeanor.
The FHP Trooper was sitting on the right shoulder near the 92 mile marker when a dark-colored sedan went by in the inside lane, according to his arrest report. He eyeballed the speed at roughly 115. His laser unit put it at 117. Depeine caught the car near the 85 mile marker and pulled it over — a gray Kia K5 with two men inside.
The recorded speed was 52 miles per hour above the posted limit — here’s what that’s key. Florida recently enacted a state law making speeds of 50 miles per hour or more over the limit an arrestable offense. Boatwright was taken into custody and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
He has since entered a not-guilty plea. He was released on $250 bond on August 26th. A court date is pending.
