BocaNewsNow.com has learned that private tutors may be under the microscope of at least one state agency.
According to information obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, the tutors in question may be assisting students who are enrolled in Florida Virtual School — the State of Florida’s online public school. The tutors may be sitting just off-camera when a child takes an online test, helping the student answer the questions correctly. The teacher giving the test is unaware that an off-camera tutor is assisting the child.
The Florida Department of Education did not immediately respond on the record to a request for confirmation or clarification. But sources tell us that the allegations are part of a bigger issue: parents who are dual-enrolling their children in brick-and-mortar school and Florida Virtual School. Parents then use the Florida Virtual School grades, potentially padded by tutors giving kids the answers, to pad their child’s brick-and-mortar school grades for college applications.
