Long Lines At Gates Have Been A Problem For 5787 Years. We Want Your Photos And Videos This Year…

It’s the annual test of HOA security guards, and most of them are likely to fail.
If you’re new to South Florida, or recently moved to a community with a guard gate, you’re likely to experience something Friday, Saturday, and again in eight days as Yom Kippur comes to a close that is a uniquely South Florida event. Thousands — and we do mean potentially thousands — of people trying to get into gated communities to celebrate (or observe) a Jewish holiday with friends or family, only to find incompetent guards who can’t figure out how to move cars through gates with any sort of speed.
It’s of course not just guards. We realize it’s extremely difficult for property management companies to effectively plan for a holiday like Rosh Hashanah — a holiday that’s been a secret now for 5787 years. Some communities, like Seven Bridges in Delray Beach, have instituted a “fast pass” program that is supposed to speed people through gates. But inexplicably, Campbell Property Management has created a system where anyone with a fast pass also has to show license, so it takes twice as long to get through a gate. Other communities using the “fast pass” system use it to speed entrances — not slow them.
So we are asking our readers to take photos and videos of what they see or experience trying to get into area communities over the next week or so. If lines of cars are blocking lanes of traffic, we want to see it. If a guard is rude, we want to know it. If there is a systemic breakdown at any area community as people try to come in, we’d like to hear about it. There is no expectation of privacy in a public place — so feel free to shoot video or take pictures. But don’t enter guard shacks, don’t do anything physical, and try to be nice. And if anything approximates antisemitism, we want to know it, hear it, or see it.
