Child, 8, Allegedly Found Unbuckled, Asleep, In Seat After Soccer Game.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Deerfield Beach woman is facing a DUI charge after deputies say she swerved through traffic, ran a red light, and nearly caused a crash with her 8-year-old son asleep and unbuckled in the back seat.
Cristina Janson, 37, was pulled over just before 11 p.m. Saturday near Palmetto Park Road and Toledo Road in unincorporated Boca Raton, according to an arrest report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com. A deputy said he watched Janson’s Toyota Tacoma drift out of its lane, speed up, then blow through a red light as two other cars entered the intersection. When deputies approached, they said Janson had glassy eyes, slurred speech and struggled to keep her balance. A cup of clear liquid sat on the floorboard, still cold, with a light flashing inside it. Deputies said the liquid tested positive for alcohol.
Janson failed a series of field sobriety exercises, deputies said, swaying during the walk-and-turn, one-leg stand and finger-to-nose tests. She told deputies she had been drinking beer at a soccer game about an hour before the stop. Two breath samples came back at 0.178 and 0.179, more than twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08. Janson was polite and cooperative throughout, according to the arrest report, and asked that her son be released to a cousin who came to the scene.
Deputies charged Janson with DUI with a person under 18 in the vehicle, a misdemeanor, and cited her separately for running the red light, failing to provide vehicle registration and failing to properly restrain her child. She was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on $1,000 bond and is due in court on October 5th.
