PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says a Deputy early Thursday shot and killed a suspect who allegedly attacked a deputy after knocking her down. This is the official statement provided to BocaNewsNow.com.
>> On September 17, 2026, at approximately 7:35 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a male requesting medical assistance at the PBSO District 19 Substation, located in the 3500 block of South Ocean Boulevard in the Town of South Palm Beach.
A female deputy responded and made contact with a white male in the parking lot, later identified as Rex Alexander Magann. Following a brief verbal confrontation, Magann violently attacked the deputy, pushing her to the ground while attempting to gain control of her firearm. While on the ground, the deputy was struck in the head multiple times by Magann. During the struggle, the deputy discharged her firearm, striking Magann. Magann was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Rex Alexander Magann, DOB: June 15, 1994, is no stranger to law enforcement. In Palm Beach County he was arrested for burglary, resisting an officer, battery on specified personnel, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, criminal mischief, and traffic-related offenses involving felony property damage.
Magann also had prior Baker Act incidents; July 2013 in Miami-Dade, September 2023 in Miami Dade, June 2025 in Martin County and July 2025 in West Palm Beach.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. In accordance with standard agency protocol, the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
