DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County woman is suing Golden Gait Riding Stables located on Winners Circle in Delray Beach, claiming she was thrown from a horse named “Super” during a guided trail ride in September 2024. Englantina Selfo just filed the lawsuit in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. It seeks in excess of the statutory minimum of $50,000. BocaNewsNow.com is publishing the complete complaint below.
Selfo says she had very limited riding experience, told the stable so, and was still put on Super, a horse she claims had a history of kicking, bolting and spooking. The complaint also alleges the bridle and other tack were the wrong type, poorly fitted or worn, and that the guide leading the Sept. 29, 2024, ride was about 17 years old with no adult manager along.
Things went wrong on the trail, according to the suit. Super kicked another horse, riders crowded too close, and the guide questioned whether some of them belonged on the ride, the complaint says. It claims the stable didn’t stop the ride, swap horses or call for help. Then another horse allegedly balked and backed away from a puddle, and Super spooked or bolted with Selfo aboard. She was thrown to the ground, according to the suit.
Selfo claims pain and suffering, disability, medical expenses and lost earnings, and says the injuries are permanent or ongoing. Florida’s equine activity law generally limits liability for the inherent risks of riding, but the suit argues the stable falls under the law’s exceptions, including failing to gauge a rider’s ability. Selfo is represented by the West Palm Beach firm Right to Justice.
