BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A retired Pembroke Pines police sergeant and his wife were found dead Monday morning in what Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are calling an apparent murder-suicide.
In a statement provided to BocaNewsNow.com, BSO says the 911 call came in around 7:12 a.m. on Sept. 21, reporting two people unresponsive in the 8300 block of Pine Drive. Pembroke Pines police officers and Pembroke Pines Fire Department paramedics arrived to find John Baker, a retired PPPD sergeant, and his wife, Joanne Baker. Both were dead.
Pembroke Pines police asked BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units to handle the death investigation. According to BSO, the preliminary investigation shows Joanne shot and killed John before turning the gun on herself.
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
