One of the country’s leading presidential historians will take on that question at Florida Atlantic University this fall. Jeffrey Engel, Ph.D., speaks Thursday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. in the Friedberg Lifelong Learning Auditorium on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road, in a lecture titled “Seeking Monsters to Destroy: How America Goes to War,” presented by the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.
Engel is a history professor at Southern Methodist University, where he serves as the David Gergen Director of the Center for Presidential History. He has written or edited 15 books, including “When the World Seemed New” and “Impeachment: An American History.” His talk previews his soon-to-be-released book of the same name, digging into the historical forces and presidential decisions that pull the nation into conflict.
