BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The office of the Inspector General for Palm Beach County says a Boca Raton resident and a landlord lied on a COVID-19 application. We are sharing the official statement below which notably does not include suspect names until law enforcement reviews the case. We are, however, providing the official investigatory document that the OIG shared with us. It appears at the end of this post:
>>The Palm Beach County Office of Inspector General (OIG) determined that a Boca Raton resident and her alleged landlord submitted two fraudulent applications and supporting information to obtain $17,500 in County-funded COVID-19 emergency rental and food assistance. The Palm Beach County Community Services Department denied additional applications seeking $14,450.00.
Palm Beach County Community Services referred the matter to the Office of Inspector General for investigation. Following the investigation, the OIG referred the case to law enforcement for review.
Fraud involving a fabricated landlord-tenant relationship can divert limited public funds from eligible households facing genuine housing crises and undermine public confidence in assistance programs.
To date, thirty-five OIG reports involving improper assistance payments have identified more than $785,000 in identified costs, resulted in the recovery of more than $255,000, and contributed to multiple criminal convictions.<<
