DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The meeting set for October 2nd at the South County Convention Center is NOT to discuss the proposed Islamic Center planned for Lyons Road near Atlantic Avenue. Palm Beach County issued the statement following inaccurate information being pushed by protestors through social media who say an Islamic Center has no place in West Delray Beach or West Boca Raton.

>> County Commissioner Maria Sachs and Palm Beach County will be holding a public meeting on the future of the Agricultural Reserve. This public meeting is part of a series of meetings for those interested in the development and continued agriculture production in the Agricultural Reserve. The meeting is located at the Dr. Andre Fladell South County Civic Center, 16700 Jog Road
Delray Beach, Florida 33446. RSVP to MSachs@pbc.gov. Capacity for this meeting is 300.
Contrary to information being spread via social media, this meeting is not about a specific project or planned development. The meeting will cover topics including development, affordable housing, transportation infrastructure and future agricultural use.

Specific projects in the Ag Reserve, like all unincorporated areas of the county, are brought to the county commission and/or Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning and Building staff as they make their way through the approval process. The approval process involves meetings, presentations and review by county staff.
The purpose of the Agricultural Reserve is to preserve unique farmland and wetlands in order to enhance agricultural activity, environmental and water resources, and open space, by limiting uses to agriculture, conservation, low density residential development, and non-residential uses which serve the needs of farmworkers and residents of the Ag Reserve Tier. <<
Shame on whomever is protesting the proposed opening of a mosque and Islamic school. Muslims have evey right to worship and educate their children in any fashion they seem fit. I wonder if there would be an outcry if a Chabad was planned. FYI, I’m jewish and went to yeshiva.
