AGRICULTURAL RESERVE TO BE DISCUSSED, NOT SPECIFIC PROJECTS.
DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The meeting set for October 2nd at the South County Convention Center is NOT to discuss the proposed Islamic Center planned for Lyons Road near Atlantic Avenue. Palm Beach County issued the statement following inaccurate information being pushed by protestors through social media who say an Islamic Center has no place in West Delray Beach or West Boca Raton.

>> County Commissioner Maria Sachs and Palm Beach County will be holding a public meeting on the future of the Agricultural Reserve. This public meeting is part of a series of meetings for those interested in the development and continued agriculture production in the Agricultural Reserve. The meeting is located at the Dr. Andre Fladell South County Civic Center, 16700 Jog Road
Delray Beach, Florida 33446. RSVP to MSachs@pbc.gov. Capacity for this meeting is 300.
Contrary to information being spread via social media, this meeting is not about a specific project or planned development. The meeting will cover topics including development, affordable housing, transportation infrastructure and future agricultural use.
Specific projects in the Ag Reserve, like all unincorporated areas of the county, are brought to the county commission and/or Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning and Building staff as they make their way through the approval process. The approval process involves meetings, presentations and review by county staff.
The purpose of the Agricultural Reserve is to preserve unique farmland and wetlands in order to enhance agricultural activity, environmental and water resources, and open space, by limiting uses to agriculture, conservation, low density residential development, and non-residential uses which serve the needs of farmworkers and residents of the Ag Reserve Tier. <<

Shame on whomever is protesting the proposed opening of a mosque and Islamic school. Muslims have evey right to worship and educate their children in any fashion they seem fit. I wonder if there would be an outcry if a Chabad was planned. FYI, I’m jewish and went to yeshiva.
Neil, Chabad is associated with peace while Islam preaches wiping out people who are both Jewish and Christian and they will do whatever they can to destroy our beliefs
The AG RESERVE was voted on and approved by the residents of Palm Beach County who obviously had/have more respect for our land than the county commission which simply seems hell bent on going against the wishes of their constituents! Did they ask us about changing the name of OUR airport ?

Any building especially for a religious building really ticks me off.. period! These “cults” already get away with spreading bigotry and some even the murder of people different from them!

To put another one on our land with their tax benefits to boot is just plain wrong!! NO MORE BUILDING PERIOD!
As a resident of West Delray in close proximity to where the proposed Islamic Center facilities; specifically a mosque, school and community center are proposed to be built, I am completely OPPOSED to this plan. Regardless of my religion or anyone else’s; the proposal must be rescinded immediately! This area is completely congested with terrible traffic many times of the day.
This proposed plan will significantly overwhelm our roads and increase probability of accidents that already happen frequently. There are other areas much further West of this location that may be available to consider that are open farmland and much less congested with many houses, stores, shopping centers, restaurants, warehouses, grocery stores, movie theaters, medical offices and other facilities that generate traffic and exist currently.
Let the current residents of this West Delray and West Boca area vote on this. We are the current residents that live and VOTE here. We should have been notified and consulted before this plan was considered. Remember election day is coming up November 3. Put this on the ballot for our local towns and see how the current residents feel about this proposal!
