UPDATE: It was in fact President Trump who shut the airport mid-day Sunday, causing travel problems for thousands of people. He was departing Mar-A-Lago, where he spent the weekend, and is now heading to DC.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The airport currently known as DJT was closed mid-day Sunday for an unspecified reason. All entrances — including roadways — were blocked by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies and FHP troopers.

The airport reopened around 1:35 p.m.

It’s unclear what led to the closure. Even the I-95 exit to the airport blocked by FHP. Traffic sat on Belvedere Road while PBSO deputies told people to call their airline for updates. Neither deputies on the scene, or PBSO officials, immediately explained what led to the closure.

Travelers were seen walking down the airport’s huge driveway onto Belvedere with bags — waiting for ride-share drivers to pick them up on the road. No one was allowed to enter the airport — even on foot.

Check back for updates.
