BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Plan for a slower drive on Federal Highway. Lane closures tied to the Florida Department of Transportation’s US 1 project started Monday, Oct. 19, and are expected to stay in place for roughly 10 weeks.
Between SE 5th Street/SE Mizner Boulevard and NE 8th Street/Mizner Boulevard, traffic drops to one lane in both directions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews work in the median. Farther south, between Camino Real and SE 5th Street, single-lane closures are allowed in either direction with no time restrictions. Two-lane closures are permitted on that stretch during non-peak hours on non-event days, nights and weekends — northbound from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and southbound from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. FDOT says access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times, and the speed limit stays at 35 mph.
The work is part of the State Road 5/US 1 Lane Repurposing and Resurfacing Project, which runs from Camino Real to NE 8th Street/Mizner Boulevard and is scheduled to wrap up in fall 2027. From Camino Real to SE Mizner Boulevard, the 11-foot outside lane is being eliminated and the median narrowed to make room for 7-foot separated bike lanes and 11-foot sidewalks. North of there, a narrower median will add separated bike lanes. Plans also call for a new signalized mid-block crosswalk with more lighting south of Plaza Real, a second northbound left-turn lane at Camino Real, new mast-arm traffic signals at that intersection, upgraded pedestrian signals, ADA-compliant curb ramps, new signs and pavement markings, and fresh resurfacing along the entire corridor.
More details are available on the City of Boca Raton’s road closures page. FDOT posts updated lane closure and pedestrian impact information in its weekly Palm Beach County traffic report.
