BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Boca Raton City Council has approved a resolution appointing Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Jim Zervis as Interim City Manager, effective October 28, 2026. He steps in to run the city’s day-to-day operations after City Manager Mark Sohaney’s resignation.
“Jim brings extensive municipal leadership experience and a strong understanding of our City’s operations and priorities,” Mayor Andy Thomson said. “His experience and familiarity with our organization will help ensure a smooth transition and continued service to our residents.”
Zervis isn’t new to running a government. As deputy city manager and CFO, he handled Boca Raton’s finances and oversaw Public Works & Engineering, Utility Services and Management Services, while playing a key role in the city’s major initiatives and long-term planning. Before coming to Boca, he was chief administrative officer for Kern County, California, where he managed a $3.5 billion budget along with countywide strategic and capital improvement planning. He has more than 20 years of executive experience in local government, including stints as a city manager and finance director, and holds credentials as an ICMA Credentialed Manager, a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Public Finance Officer.
“My focus will be on supporting our employees, maintaining continuity in City operations, and ensuring we continue delivering the services our residents rely on,” Zervis said. City officials say services and operations will continue without interruption.
