BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man who refused to hand over his belongings outside a Congress Avenue store was shot in the ankle Tuesday morning. Police say the gunman threatened to kill him and kept firing as he ran.
It happened just after 11 a.m. at 1610 South Congress Avenue. According to Boynton Beach Police, the victim had left the store and was walking to his vehicle when a man he didn’t know came up, pressed a gun into his back and demanded his property. The victim said no. Police say the suspect then shot him in the ankle and fired several more rounds before getting into a silver Nissan and driving off. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Detectives identified the suspect and the car quickly. With help from the sheriff’s office aviation unit, investigators found the Nissan near the 1000 block of Southwest 27th Place. Police say the suspect then left a home there in an Uber and went to a residence in Palm Springs. Christopher Carlos Porta was arrested there without incident.
Porta faces charges of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm and is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail. The South Florida Criminal Apprehension Team and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office TAC Team also assisted.
