BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Families with children ages 5 to 17 can now get up to 10 free counseling sessions through Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services (JFS), paid for by a grant the agency recently received from the Palm Beach County Youth Services Department. Kids meet one-on-one with a licensed therapist. A few family sessions can be added if needed.
Rising health care premiums and living costs are squeezing local households, and some parents are choosing between paying bills and putting enough food on the table. Counseling for their kids often gets pushed aside. In 2024, the county’s Youth Services Department built a plan to help children succeed as they grow into adulthood. Data from local agencies, including Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network and the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, showed a link between student success and mental health — and showed that economic instability is often what keeps children from getting proper treatment.
Under the grant, families who financially qualify get evidence-based behavioral health services at no cost. “Children’s mental health should never depend on a family’s ability to pay. Yet many hardworking parents are postponing or forgoing counseling services because of rising healthcare and household expenses,” said Danielle Hartman, President & CEO of JFS.
Parents can call JFS at (561) 852-3333 to ask about counseling services for their children.
