BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A standoff with a man that police say was suicidal led to police shooting and killing the man when he allegedly pointed a gun at deputies. It happened Wednesday night on U.S. 441 near the Sandalfoot shopping plaza. Here is the official statement from PBSO:
>>On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at approximately 9:36 p.m., PBSO Communications received a call stating that a family member was threatening to take his own life.
At approximately 9:55 p.m., deputies located the armed/suicidal male, later identified as Joshua Senfeld, 30 years of age in a shopping plaza which still had commercial business open. Deputies immediately initiated communication with Senfeld in an effort to peacefully resolve the situation. These efforts continued for more than an hour.
During the course of the encounter, Senfeld brandished a firearm in the direction of deputies, at which time deputies discharged their firearms, striking Senfeld. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This investigation remains active and ongoing. All deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave which is standard agency protocol.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and PBSO’s Violent Crimes Division are actively investigating the incident. <<
Senfeld has been identified on social media as a veteran, but that has not been confirmed by PBSO. An initial background check conducted by BocaNewsNow.com reveals that Mr. Senfeld was living in the Orlando area at the time of his death, and that he has no history with law enforcement anywhere in the United States.
