UPDATE at 2:26 p.m. — The scene just cleared. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com: At approximately 10:55, PBCFR was dispatched to a reported rollover crash on the Florida’s Turnpike about 1/2 mile south of the Atlantic Ave exit. The 911 caller stated a truck on the northbound lanes had rolled over. Additional callers stated the crash was on the south pound lanes. Upon arrival, units found a truck on its side in the northbound lanes, and two vehicles with moderate damage on the southbound side in the breakdown lane. It was unclear if both were from the original incident, or if the southbound crash was due to the distraction of the rollover crash. On the southbound crash, two people were evaluated, and one of them met trauma alert criteria. The northbound crash was a single truck that was hauling used cooking grease. The truck was on its side. The occupant of that vehicle also met trauma alert criteria. Both trauma alert patients were transported by ground units to a trauma center.
Firefighters used foam to help break down the grease on the roadway. FDOT was also notified. The scene was turned over to FHP just after 1pm. The Florida’s turnpike had a brief closure in both directions. Some lanes have been reopened in both directions.
UPDATE at 11:30 a.m. — Three people were rushed to Delray Medical Center, the area’s trauma center. One person was ejected from his truck during the crash. Another person was in a vehicle that rolled over.
