BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The serious crash early Thursday morning that closed North Federal Highway in Boca Raton for several hours involved a Boca Raton Police Officer.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Boca Raton Officer John Hettchen was driving a 2024 Nissan Altima North on Federal Highway when he struck 22 year old Kayla Macaluso of 126th Avenue in Coral Springs. The incident is under investigation by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which provided this narrative:

“(The Nissan) was traveling northbound on North Federal Highway just north of Spanish River Boulevard within the inside lane of travel. Macaluso was within the grassy median wearing dark non-reflective clothing. As the Nissan near Macaluso, Macaluso left the grassy median and entered the inside northbound lane in the path of the Nissan. The front driver side of the Nissan struck Macaluso.

As the crash ensued, Macaluso was redirected into the grassy median. She was transported to Delray Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries sustained from this collision.”
