Raekwon Johnson, who was 26 years old at the time of the August 2024 crash, was sentenced May 29, 2026, to 20.65 years in the Florida Department of Corrections. His driver’s license has been revoked for life.
The crash happened on the night of August 7, 2024, at Lantana Road and Congress Avenue in Lake Worth. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was fleeing southbound on Congress Avenue from an Atlantis Police traffic stop when he ran a red light and slammed into a 2021 Ford Escape driven by Sacha Rukin, 69, of Lake Worth Beach. Rukin was killed. The impact set off a chain-reaction crash involving four other vehicles. A second driver, Edrice Titil of Boynton Beach, suffered serious injuries. Johnson fled on foot but was later arrested. As BocaNewsNow.com reported at the time, investigators said Johnson was preparing to flee the area before he was taken into custody.

On January 29, 2026, Johnson pleaded guilty to fleeing or attempting to elude causing death, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and three counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
In addition to the prison sentence, a judge ordered Johnson to serve 10 years of probation upon release, complete 200 hours of community service, attend DUI school, and participate in a victim impact panel. Court fees, a fine, and restitution were also ordered.
