The unofficial event on Lake Boca, featuring unmasked drunken activity, led to multiple arrests and citations. BocaNewsNow.com published the arrests on Monday. Tickets — issued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission — are still being processed. We will publish those tickets later in the week.
Multiple employers reaching out to BocaNewsNow.com say they are scouring social media to see if their employees took part in the event. If they did, repercussions could range from banning them from an office or work place until negative COVID tests are presented, or firing them outright.
“While we generally support and encourage fun,” said an employer who asked to remain anonymous, “this is not the year to be in the middle of an umasked boozefest. We need to worry about our customers.”
Another employer went further.
“If we see employees on social media who are taking part in activity that violates CDC guidelines, we will terminate them.”
Whether these claims are hyperbole or reality remains unclear — BocaNewsNow.com is unaware of anyone actually fired for Boca Bash attendance as of early Tuesday morning. We will update with company names should firings, termination or disciplinary action actually be confirmed.
There is significant concern among medical professionals, however, that the event will lead to significant COVID-19 spread in the area.
