BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The flood watch for Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Wellington, and most of South Florida has been extended through Thursday evening. The National Weather Service moved the expiration — originally set for Wednesday — following the extreme rain event that impacted the region on Tuesday. Some areas received as much as eight inches of rain in less than 24 hours. This is the Wednesday update from the National Weather Service:

  • WHAT… Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • WHERE… Portions of southeast, southern, and southwest Florida, including the following areas, in southeast Florida, Coastal Broward County, Coastal Miami Dade County, Coastal Palm Beach County, Far South Miami-Dade County, Inland Broward County, Inland Miami-Dade County, Inland Palm Beach County, Metro Broward County, Metro Palm Beach County and Metropolitan Miami Dade. In southern Florida, Glades and Hendry. In southwest Florida, Coastal Collier County, Inland Collier County and Mainland Monroe.
  • WHEN… Through Thursday evening.
  • IMPACTS… Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
    Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
  • Enhanced tropical moisture will remain pooled across South Florida for much of the work week. Portions of South Florida observed 4-8 inches of rainfall on Tuesday and 3-6 inches of additional rainfall is expected through Thursday evening, with localized accumulations up to 8 inches possible. This rainfall combined with increasingly saturated ground conditions will result in the potential for localized flooding, particularly in urban and poor drainage areas.
