UPDATE: 7:46 a.m. — FHP just reported that all lanes have reopened. Expect it take quite some time for traffic to return to normal not just on the Turnpike, but much of Boca Raton and Delray Beach between Glades and Atlantic, as traffic has been rerouted through the area for hours.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Two people died in an overnight crash on the Florida Turnpike, just north of Glades Road. The Turnpike remains closed for northbound traffic between Glades and Atlantic as of 7:30 a.m. Friday.

FHP says a 25-year-old male from Weston and a 43-year-old male from West Palm Beach both died in the wreck around 1:58 this morning.

According to investigators, the 25-year-old was driving south in the northbound lanes, while the 43-year-old was driving north — as expected. The 25-year-old collided head-on with the 43-year-old.

Traffic is being diverted from the Turnpike at Glades Road, detoured through West Boca Raton and West Delray, and being permitted to re-enter the Turnpike at Atlantic Avenue. Expect major delays throughout the morning.
