This crane sat on Lyons Road, south of Atlantic, for nearly two years. While that section of Lyons is now complete, the intersection of Lyons and Atlantic remains dangerous. Palm Beach County says it should be complete in just weeks.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The disastrous intersection that is Lyons Road and Atlantic Avenue — under construction for years instead of the originally planned months — is still set to be complete in July. That’s according to an updated provided to BocaNewsNow.com on Saturday from the Palm Beach County Department of Engineering. Officials also say the traffic lights at the intersection — now only letting a few cars through at a time which is leading to accidents — are being “retimed” to permit more cars to pass through during each cycle.

Here is the update from Palm Beach County: The traffic pattern has been shifted on Lyons Road at Atlantic Avenue and staff is monitoring the situation on a daily basis.  We have adjusted the signal timing at the intersection to provide as much green time to each movement as possible but we understand there are still delays.  This pattern is temporary and we appreciate your patience as we work through these complicated steps required to complete the construction.

Over the past few weeks, the contractor has been working on the new median curbing and preparing the area for asphalt. Despite the inclement weather, the contractor has been onsite working. Over the past week, they have placed over 1900 LF of F curb for the median work and, just yesterday, 200+ tons of asphalt in the southbound area approaching Atlantic.  The contractor is still on track for July 2024 completion.

We also want to provide an update on Flavor Pict Road between SR-7 and Lyons Road.  The contractor for that project was able to complete some of the paving before the rains started this week and they also had their initial inspection by the Florida Department of Transportation for the bridge certification.  We expect those inspection punchlist items and paving to resume on Monday, weather permitting.  This segment is expected to open to traffic in the next few weeks.
