BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The man accused of killing a Boca Raton bicyclist early Sunday morning on Ocean Boulevard is identified as Thomas Vayianos of Brick, New Jersey. Vayianos was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail just hours after he allegedly slammed into a man riding his bike in the 1400 block of North Ocean Boulevard around 7 a.m. Sunday.
BocaNewsNow.com was first to report on the crash that left the victim, believed to be in his early 50s and a father of young children, dead on the scene. We are not identifying the victim until further confirmation is received. Ocean Boulevard is a popular, yet dangerous, bicycling location due to traffic levels and road width.
The suspect, Thomas Vayianos, is identified through social media and background check services as a social media “specialist.” Among his previous positions: Vayianos worked as a videographer for a cable news operation in New Jersey, and provided communication support for several ski resorts in New Jersey. His LinkedIn profile suggests he just moved to Boca Raton for a search engine optimization job.
Vayianos is officially charged with “Homicide — negligent manslaughter — vehicular DUI, cause death to human or unborn child.” He is expected to make a first appearance in court Monday morning. We will update this post with the full affidavit of probable cause once it is processed by the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts.
