BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A group of seemingly vigilante adults physically restrained at least one child in the Lotus community (Lyons Road north of Clint Moore) Friday afternoon. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the incident as prosecutors determine whether assault charges should be filed. BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the investigation has been classified as an “assault.”
In video obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, a number of men are seen physically touching the child, while at least two women do nothing but complain that “the kids should have respect in this neighborhood. They don’t have jobs. They don’t pay the bills.” Lotus is a community of homes valued at $1M+.
According to witnesses, the adults were angry that the child was riding what’s described as a “velociraptor” electric bike — a bike that is largely banned in area communities. The e-bikes are often provided to children by parents who can’t comprehend that kids are constantly being rushed to area hospitals after sustaining injury on these bikes. Drivers constantly express frustration to BocaNewsNow.com — and law enforcement — that kids are weaving in and out of traffic while riding at high speeds.
On Friday, a group of adults apparently had enough — but may have broken multiple laws. They are seen physically restraining the child and taking his phone. They refuse to return the phone and then say they’re “calling the clubhouse.” It was not immediately clear why these adults decided to physically restrain the child and call “the clubhouse” instead of calling the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to request a deputy’s assistance. Now, instead of the child facing education from a deputy, the adults are potentially facing assault charges and charges related to depriving someone of a communication device to call 911. It is illegal to touch another person without their permission, it is potentially child abuse to physically restrain a random kid, and it is an arrestable offense in Florida to deprive someone of the ability to call for emergency services.

Unlike the gang of adults surrounding him, this young victim knew his rights and refused to bow to their unlawful conduct as he repeatedly told the offenders to “Give me my phone.”
These residents displayed an extremely poor example of mob behavior for the young man’s biking pals as they helplessly watched from across the street.

Boy was laying hard firsts and it’s clear from the video. Obviously there is something prior to the video which caused the reaction. I hope parents talk sense into the kids. If parents can’t raise children, the street will have to do it. Police should focus on enforcing traffic laws and ebike regulations. Parents are guilty since they got him this e bike rocket. Based on other kids standing around – they might have bothered community. What did they expect.

If the kid is throwing fists or doing something illegal call the cops but thats not what the did they called their clubhouse and took his phone which is theft. They also physically restrained him which is way illegal. They didnt take his phone for their security they were taking his phone so he couldnt call his parents or the cops or film them.
This boy looks like he weighs about 70 pounds. That’s multiple grown men ganging up on him, restraining him, and taking his property. Not sure how anyone can watch this video and excuse their behavior. They could have called security or called the police if this child was doing something reckless. Not sure why they thought they could take matters into their own hands. They deserve whatever they have coming to them.

I live in a neighboring community, and I have to say….those adults are incredibly fortunate that it wasn’t my child whose property was taken.
While we can all agree that some behavior from kids across our communities can be inappropriate or even unsafe, these are not your children. That does not give any adult the right to take matters into their own hands in this way.
What’s especially concerning is seeing an adult woman recording the situation while appearing to defend a grown man taking property from a minor, rather than de-escalating or supporting the child. That only adds to the problem.
From what I’ve seen, nothing about the children’s behavior appeared to put this man’s life in danger, which makes the response feel even more disproportionate.
I do not know these children and I am not excusing their behavior, but they are still children. Adults are expected to exercise better judgment. If there were concerns, the appropriate course of action would have been to contact parents or local authorities, not intervene in a way that escalates the situation.

This is assault and harassment. The adults were laying hands on a minor, stealing his property, and verbally threatening him. The police should find all the individuals in the video and charge them. That poor boy had done nothing to these people. This is the trash that is moving in to West Boca: people with a little bit of money and an inflated sense of importance. They are spiritual failures. Lucky for them his parents didn’t happen to just be driving by and see a bunch of men grabbing their child and come out with a weapon and justifiable shoot one of them.
That’s not the entire video. Whoever submitted it edited out where the kid says things were thrown at him, he was pushed off his bike and then his phone taken away. (Ed note: we don’t know if this is true — we did not edit the video. But this claim seems to be in sync with police information).
Who cares what the kid was doing. At least they were outside haven fun and not doing worse illegal stuff they were just having fun. This os why kids don’t like going outside anymore because people like these adults. If that was my kid and I pulled up on this all adults who had hands on my kids would get there whooped. I watched this video a couple of hours ago and I was appalled at the behavior of these grown men. I was so upset that I wrote to Andrew, and I sent a message to the N. Y. company that Mr. Shuman supposedly works for. What was done to this young man was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. The boy kept saying he wanted his phone back. It is only now after reading all these comments that I feel a bit better that so many people responded and stepped up to write. I will follow this case and look forward to all the adult present who broke the law are held responsible for their actions. I cannot imagine why this Shuman jerk was keeping this young man’s phone, only that one person said so he could not call his parents or record. Not allowing him to call his parents and taking is phone is very serious, I hope by now Shuman has come to his senses and goes public and makes an apology. That does not let him off the hook for what he already did, but at least we would know that he realizes he make a big mistake (along with all the other adults there). This Shuman jerk really put himself in a very bad situation, so bad he may have to return to New York.
