LEFT AUSTIN FOR BAHAMAS

UPDATE AT 3:16 pm from FAA: “A Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area near Cresthaven, Florida, around 12:50 p.m. local time on Sunday, Nov. 1. Nine people were on board. The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates.”
UPDATE 2:48 p.m. — Initial information that we caution is extremely preliminary and subject to change identifies the plane as a Lear Jet that departed Austin, Texas this morning. All records have been stripped from view. Radar data indicates the plane plunged from just over 8,000 feet before the crash. We have reached out to the FAA and NTSB.
UPDATE 2:41 p.m. — Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office issued this statement: “An incident involving an aircraft is currently under investigation in the area of Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. All northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail are closed until further notice. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
UPDATE: 2:34 p.m. — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue finally confirms that this is a plane crash. The agency issued this statement moments ago: “Aircraft Incident. Military Trail between Cresthaven and 10th Avenue N closed to all traffic. Avoid the area. This will be an extended incident.”
UPDATE: 2:21 p.m. — We are being told by sources — and this may be completely incorrect — that the plane involved was a Lear Jet that is normally based in Texas. The tail number and tracking data are suddenly inaccessible through public databases.
UPDATE: 1:39 p.m. — We’ve learned a small plane crashed into a mobile home. We remain unclear why Palm Beach County Fire Rescue isn’t officially sharing details at this point, but our information is that this was a small plane. It’s unclear how many people were on the plane. It is also unclear if anyone was in the mobile home at the time of the crash. We do know that no people have been transported to area hospitals. (Have photos? UPDATE 1:27 p.m. — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is not providing details regarding the “mass casualty incident.” At least one hospital has been told that the plane crash is confirmed, but Fire Rescue is inexplicably not responding to requests for public information.
UPDATE 1:18 p.m. — Palm Beach County is now advising hospitals that this “may” be a plane crash. We’re unclear what is confusing about a plane crash, but we’ll update as soon as we learn more.

It is unclear if this is a small plane or commercial airliner. We do know that area hospitals are being put on alert for a mass casualty incident as of 1:10 p.m.
We have asked Palm Beach County Fire Rescue for details but have not yet received a response.
Check back for updates.

Heard plane noise. Then heard impact seconds later black smoke cloud. Not long lasting.
Was it a piston engine propeller, or jet/turboprop sound?
My two friends and I heard a big boom which for a second seemed like thunder, but was subsequently followed by visible black smoke rising from the ground over our building, coming from the direction of Military Rd. and what I perceived to be Forest Hill Blvd. Within minutes, a succession of ambulances and fire trucks followed for what seemed like 25 minutes
It’s a small hole it obviously wasn’t a commercial airliner. Probanly gas explosion. Stop trying to sensationalize this. No wonder the FD won’t answer your requests.
You’re wrong.
Gas explosion? What kind of drugs are you on? It was a small plane, Learjet. There are pictures of it already out there and at the top of the news story.
I seriously hope that the new air defenses in Mar-A-Lago didn’t shoot this down.
