BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — We didn’t know that creating artwork with inkjet printers is a thing, but apparently it is noteworthy enough to lead Dorothy Simpson Krause to be named “artist in residence” at FAU. Here’s how Florida Atlantic University explains it:
Dorothy Simpson Krause has been selected the inaugural “Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence” at the Wimberly Library’s Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts on Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton campus.
Krause, a professor emeritus at Massachusetts College of Art, is a painter, collage artist and bookmaker who incorporates digital mixed media. She founded the computer arts center at the Massachusetts College of Art, authored “Book + Art: Handcrafting Artists’ Books” and co-authored “Digital Art Studio: Techniques for Combining Inkjet Printing with Traditional Art Materials.” During Krause’s residency, which runs from January through April, she will work on her project, “River of Grass,” which was inspired by Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ 1947 seminal book “The Everglades: River of Grass,” which helped to drive the popular movement to save Florida’s fragile Everglades wetlands. The project involves a limited edition drum leaf book that incorporates handmade paper, letterpress and inkjet prints. Krause also plans to teach a workshop for FAU students and the general public. Helen M. Salzberg, a poet and artist, established the artist in residence program at the Jaffe Center in 2011 to enable artists working in the book arts to work and teach at the Jaffe Center.
