BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Two teens are in big trouble after police say they stole golf carts from “The Bridges” on Lyons Road, then fled across Lyons to “Seven Bridges” — only to be cuffed by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office detective.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells BocaNewsNow.com that the incident happened on April 8th. Two teens — who we’ll only identify as Eduardo and Simon — apparently rode their bicycles from Seven Bridges and entered “The Bridges” through the security gate. Inexplicably, they saw two maintenance golf carts and decided it would be fun to commit a felony. They each took a maintenance golf cart and sped off around The Bridges.

Here’s the thing: the maintenance workers watched the whole thing happen and chased the kids. The master thieves allegedly ditched the golf carts, returned to their bikes and took off. That led to a Bridges security guard getting involved. He alerted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which had a detective already in the area.

Within minutes, the kids were on the ground in the area of Beaujolais Avenue and Picardy in Seven Bridges, hands behind their back, and being read their Miranda rights.

”I asked the two juveniles what had occurred earlier at the Bridges community,” wrote the Detective in his report. “Both told me the same story. They were riding their bicycles from Seven Bridges over to the Bridges when they saw two golf carts sitting unoccupied int he community. Both of the suspects entered two separate golf carts using an unknown object to start the golf carts and taking them on a brief ‘joy ride.’ Both stated that when they were seen by the maintenance men giving chase on foot, they exited the golf carts near the community tennis courts, then ran back to their bicycles and fled the community. Both told me they meant no harm and weren’t going to steal the carts but only take them for a ride for a short amount of time.”

Mothers for the children were called to the scene and reminded how to parent. Charges were not filed, but Bridges security asked PBSO to “trespass” the kids. Police said they couldn’t until deputies actually saw them on property. One of the kids lives on Moritz Way, the other in the 1100 block of SW 20t Street in Boca Raton.

While car thefts have been a huge problem in both Seven Bridges and The Bridges, we believe this is the first edition of “Grand Theft: Golf Cart” being reported in either community.

  1. I hope they arrest the parents. It is obvious they did a extremely poor job of parenting or teaching their delinquent children. Jail time and mandatory parenting classes. Bad parenting makes bad kids. Teach respect for others and not stealing. New concept for those incompetent parents.
