BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Looks like 2024 is starting the way 2023 ended — full of selfish people bringing their pets to places where they don’t belong. Our latest example: this couple bringing a large dog into Walmart at Palmetto Park Road and U.S. 441 in West Boca Raton. Turns out Walmart sells food. That means these people are violating the law.

BocaNewsNow.com readers have nominated these folks for our first Boca Rudeton award of 2024. We tend to agree and are happy to bestow the honor on these people and their furry friend. We note the furball did nothing wrong. It’s a dog. Which is the point. House dogs only go where people bring them. And they shouldn’t be bringing them to stores, restaurants, or other food-serving locations in the state of Florida.

Couple with dog in Walmart Boca Raton: you are our first Boca Rudeton winner of 2024. We still don’t give prizes, but if we did, how about a tee-shirt that says “Atitude Adjustment?” Oh wait… looks like you already have one. But perhaps you also need one. It’s so confusing.

We remind our readers that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be rude here! Send your submissions to us through the menu buttons, above. 1. Even if the dog is an “emotional support animal” (rather than a service animal), it’s hard to feel much sympathy. Since he’s accompanying a couple, whichever of them needed the emotional support could have remained with the dog, outside the store.

  2. I agree with Mike. Store managers look the other way. At Aldi’s on Linton in Delray, I told the check out person about a dog licking the bottom shelves and her reply was, “it’s a service dog.” Most unlikely. At least we see less dogs in stores now that your paper took the initiative to make this issue known.

      1. Rudeton is the best. Dog paws on Walmart floors, the superhighway of germs. You have pesticides, mop water, dirt, roach / insect debris, etc… all collected on Scoobies paws and headed back to the mystery machine. I think it’s the biggest sign of an attention seeking person at the end of the leash. They actually don’t care about their dogs by exposing them to all this.

  3. What about the inconsiderate people taking their dogs to restaurants and putting them on chairs and allow them to eat off the table with them. It’s a shame that they say it’s a service dog or emotional support animal. Talk about trying to beat the system. What about my personal space. I love dogs but not sitting on chairs adjacent to me. Thoughtless and i considerate.

    1. Not allowed by law. Dogs have no place in a restaurant. “Emotional support?” That’s why there are psychiatrists, phycologists, therapists, counselors, plenty of help out there without imposing on other people.

    2. Service dogs are required to be on the floor in restaurants. They can not be fed from the table. They can not be held on sit on a chair in a restaurant. Service dog owners know and respect the laws so if you see this happening it is most likely not a service dog/

  4. With all the horrible news in this Country, you are bashing someone because they brought their dog to Walmart.
Don’t you have something else to do with your time????? Enough of your bashing!!!!

  5. Maybe you ought to address more important issues than worrying about dogs in supermarkets and restaurants! You are just as rude as you make others to appear and disgust many of us

    1. Whats so hard about following the law? If you break other laws, you get mug shotted. Would you prefer society enforce these laws that way or is public shaming a better solution? I say if you’re going to complain about shaming these folks, you should be in favor of law enforcement taking over and handling it. Otherwise, why even have a country if people don’t have to follow the laws?

  6. Every time and at various supermarkets I frequent that I call someone out.for bringing a dog on a leash instore or even worse a wee little dog.in the shopping cart people respond by saying no one minds.
    Or.the shop doesnt mind.

Truth is it’s not ok at all.
No one needs their pet to go shopping.

Seeing eye dogs are something completely different.

  7. Come on guys! Don’t start the year complaining. Walmart is not a restaurant and not exactly the epitome of cleanliness! Do yourself a favor and understand your not in others peoples shoes and don’t know the situation of why they might have needed to bring the dog in the store. You’ll be happier in 2024 if you stop judging things you know nothing about.

  8. To everyone infuriated that employees aren’t cracking down on personal pets in stores: No one making minimum wage wants the burden of being the one inform the shopper that their pet is not allowed. Do you remember the videos of shoppers assaulting workers when they were asked to wear a mask while shopping? No job is worth that kind of headache. How about instead of taking “sneaky” pictures, you approach the dog owner and see what happens.
To many of those commenting: There’s a chance that you share the same entitled disposition as these dog owners. Chances are you would not respond kindly to being told you’re doing something wrong.
Obviously personal pets should not be allowed in most stores.

  9. The people of Boca really need to get a hobby. Ever heard of pickleball? Maybe get a pet and see what all the fuss is about. You’d be a nicer person as you would be outside getting some much needed exercise.

  10. I understand some people don’t like dogs or just don’t like them in stores. Some people are taking advantage of some stores flexibility to “emotional support animals”.
But if the problem is about “cleanliness” than I’d rather pet an animal than shake hands with people any time. I’ve witnessed way too many people not washing their hands after using the bathroom, smelled all kinds of body odors, and I’ve seen plenty of hair lice!!

  11. Just pass a law that if you bring a dog that is not a trained/certified service animal into a grocery store or dining establishment, the police confiscate it and take it to animal control where it is then humanely euthanized. Period. The owner’s arrogance is creating a health hazard.
Yeah, I know, it’s not the dog’s fault, but I promised you this will instantly and forever resolve the issue. Like magic.

  12. How are y’all gonna sit in judgement on what you know nothing of? First of all WHERE are they breaking the law? It’s legal to have service/emotional support animals in stores. And yes people def do abuse that law all the time. THAT’S on them. But what about the military vet with PTSD, or the girl that was raped and only feels safe in public with her support animal. What about the abused child that is only able to function bcuz they feel safe with their support animal. No one knows the story behind those with animals in public places like grocery stores, malls etc. No one knows that it’s only bcuz of that support animal that person is able to lead at least a semblance of a normal life and leave their homes to go shop for food, clothes etc. And I totally agree with what another poster commented about being around a groomed support animal over shaking hands with some of the nasty azz people I’ve seen in public. Just bcuz they are human does NOT make them cleaner or safer to be around. I feel horrible for homeless people and the likes of those. But those that choose to be filthy, stinking, nasty, grungy drug addicted or drunks, will rob your azz in a heartbeat if the notion hits them. Aww naw give me a well behaved support animal any day. Think about this you bitchin bcuz you had no shoes, until you see a man with no feet. Walk in that persons shoes and maybe you’ll realize that that animal isn’t simply a pet. It’s a tool. A coping mechanism. Instead of harassing them or causing them grief by questioning them or having employees question them, or even calling the police to them. How about just leave em alone. Do you, let them do them and maybe thank God YOUR not in the position or situation where you need a support animal simply to have a normal life. God Bless you all. Happy New Year!!!

    1. Tammy – There is NO LAW that allows “emotional support” animals in stores or on planes.
Nobody wants your dirty, disgusting dog newr fresh food and produce. If you can’t shop
without a dog, then USE INSTACART or UBER, or do curbside pickup to buy your groceries.

KEEP YOUR DAMN DIRTY DOGS AT HOME !

  13. Yet it’s ok to bring infants and toddlers into Walmart, et al, as they drool, piss and crap all over the place. The author of this disgusting column conveniently forgets that Service Animals are allowed anywhere and everywhere.

    1. Darrin.. The rude, pathetic and emotionally crippled humans who are breaking the law to bring their dirty PETS into food stores are NOT blind or crippled, as anyone can plainly see in photos of these entitled MAGA GOP Nazi Evildoers. Perhaps a lesson on what defines a “Service Dog” is in order :

      SERVICE DOG (noun) :
A dog that has been *specially trained to assist a disabled person* with certain daily tasks, such as picking up an object from the floor.

A canine, such as a seeing-eye dog or a hearing-ear dog, which assists a person who is physically handicapped or who suffers from a mental disability such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

A canine which assists the work of military or law enforcement officials.

Unless you are blind or severely disabled, your dirty pet dog is NOT a “Service Animal”… Ok. Got it now ?

      Class dismissed !
