OFFICER SHOT: Part Of Fort Lauderdale Shut Down

UPDATE: One person was found dead in the hotel room, a suspect believed to died of a self-inflicted wound. A police officer was shot by the man before he apparently shot himself. Cops say the man called 911 to report he had killed someone in his room, but no person was found.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Fort Lauderdale Police Officer was shot around 8:30 Thursday morning in or near the Holiday Inn Express on the 17th Street Causeway.

The Causeway is completely shut down — vehicle traffic is being blocked from entering or exiting. There is no active shooter at this time.

The injured police officer is reportedly in stable condition. It was not clear what led to the shooting. A SWAT Team, and at least 30 police vehicles, remain on the scene.
