BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The crash that shut Florida’s Turnpike for more than six hours Thursday in Coconut Creek was triggered by a 31-year-old white male from Coconut Creek who allegedly drove on the shoulder of the turnpike, slamming into a black female who was parked. The woman, 30, from Panama City, was killed.

In the official police narrative below, V1 refers to a vehicle one — a yellow Jeep Wrangler SUV driving by the male from Coconut Creek. V2 refers to vehicle two — a 2009 White Acura TSX driving by the woman from Panama City.

“V-2 was parked upon the outside shoulder of northbound State Road 91 (Florida’s Turnpike) near mile marker 67. V-1 was traveling north upon the outside shoulder of northbound State Road 91 near mile marker 67. V-1 was improperly driving on the shoulder. D-1 did not slow, stop, or maneuver V-1 in order to avoid parked V-2.

The front of V-1 collided with the rear of V-2. Post collision, V-2 rotated and came to rest facing south upon the outside shoulder of State Road 91. Post collision with V-2, V-1 overturned onto its left side and came to rest facing south upon the outside shoulder.

D-2 (driver of vehicle 2) was pronounced deceased on scene by Coconut Creek Fire Rescue personnel.”

There is no suggestion, according to Florida Highway Patrol, the deceased driver had done anything wrong. The investigation continues. Charges have not been filed at this time against the driver of the Jeep.
